Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTION: Why use the Dechoker?
ANSWER: We recommend following the Red Cross protocol, in the event that it does not dislodge the debris we recommend continuing chest compression and trying the Dechoker. We encourage you to become familiar with the Dechoker device and training videos prior to an emergency.
QUESTION: The tongue depressor on the toddler Dechoker looks too big. Is this the case?
ANSWER: Dechoker device is not recommended for neonatal (or infant) use. Devices are available in three sizes (Toddler, Child, and Adult). The tube is a tongue depressor.
QUESTION: Does it hurt the patient when a Dechoker is used?
ANSWER: The Dechoker is designed such that it does not hurt the patient.
QUESTION: When you push the plunger in does it force air into the patient?
ANSWER: No. The architecture of the device is such that no air is forced into the patient. A cross slit valve disallows any air from entering the mouth. Air only enters the cylinder through the tube that goes into the mouth and can only go out through the cross slit valve.
SAFE AND EFFICIENT: A respiratory mask helps dislodge foreign objects; tongue depressor prevents mouth cavity from collapsing; and backflow release valve stops debris from re-entering. Can be operated by children
CONVENIENT USE: Easy-to-follow instructions make this choke rescue medical device readily applicable
PORTABLE AND COMPACT: Small and lightweight; carried in a backpack, glove compartment, or first-aid kits at home, school, and office
EVERY SECOND COUNTS: The DeCHOKER is a life-saving device that can be used for clearing airways regardless of illness, disorder, or other health-related conditions. Our goal is to become the standard of care for choking-related emergencies
